I first met James P. Cramer in the early 2000s as an Associate Member of the AIA. I had the honor of being seated next to him at a dinner in the National Building Museum, celebrating that year’s Gold Medal Honoree.
This was long after he left his position as EVP/CEO of AIA National while still CEO of Greenway Group and DesignIntelligence. He’s been a long-time mentor turned friend and has given me opportunities to find my voice within the profession.
Yesterday I spent time with his graduate students at Georgia Tech to share my career path and thoughts on the profession’s future. (Don’t mind the fact that I was looking at the Zoom video and not the camera.)
I am honored to have his continuous support and guidance as I run for AIA National President.

James P. Cramer is the former EVP/CEO of The American Institute of Architects.
He is the author of six books, including Design Plus Enterprise and the best seller, How Firms Succeed (with Scott Simpson). Cramer serves on the faculty at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he teaches entrepreneurship in professional practice.
He is an independent board member to five professional practices ranging in size from 17 to 1200 employees.
